our journey towards atheism

We grew up Catholic but something never felt right. I (Mama) kept asking questions only to get unsatisfying replies. "Just have faith" "it is not our job to question god" "pray on it" "you will get your answers after death" "god works in mysterious ways"

We started to pick and choose which parts of our religion we liked and which we didn't but this did not feel right. We moved to different cities and never found another church that felt like our community. We kept up our traditions at home. We enrolled Skeptic Chick into catechism for her first communion. Then she continued to attend church with her grandparents. (she will write a post about her journey later)

Questions just kept nagging away.

After years of drifting away from church and studying world religions, we came to the conclusion that this idea of god in its various forms must simply be man made. There is no one true religion - only various human viewpoints. When seeking truth, the results must be global. Math and Science are global truths.
Apostatexp found some online videos that woke us up. (will have him post more specifics about this)

We finally felt free. Free to think. Free to question. Free to find answers. Free to be ourselves.
It felt like a huge weight was lifted off. No more fear of hell. No more guilt for not wanting to go to church. No more having to do something simply because a book says so.
Then came the hard part. Telling our family and friends. We had to come out. It had mixed results... but that is a story for another post.

Now we proudly call ourselves atheists.

What about you?
Have you always been an atheist family? or have you left a religion or still have ties to religious family members?

We would love to hear your story too!
